All United States citizens require a passport for travel to and from The Bahamas.
If you are flying back to the United States or through the U.S, you will clear U.S. Customs and Immigration in Nassau. The Nassau Airport Authority suggests you get to the airport 2 - 3 hours prior to your departure time.
Upon arrival in The Bahamas you will clear Bahamian Customs and Immigration. This too can take time depending upon the number of arrivals.

The terrain is quite rough so it is important to bring good walking/hiking shoes or sneakers, lightweight long pants and lightweight long sleeved shirts.
